DESPITE defeat in their final fixture against one of their relegation rivals, Droitwich avoided the drop from the Worcestershire County League first division.

Spa were narrowly beaten by 24 runs at Redditch where a sparkling century by Aussie Kris Corbett was the highlight for the visitors.

Heavy defeats for Harvington and Bromyard saw the Herefordshire side fall from the top-flight with Droitwich finishing 16 points clear of the relegation zone – a margin that can be regarded as a little close for comfort.

Innings of 84 by Chinn and 59 by Choudhury were the mainstay of a Redditch total of 255-9. Corbett hit 101 in reply but Spa were unable to bat out their overs as they were dismissed for 231 with seven overs remaining.

In the second team reverse fixture, Redditch were victorious by 84 runs. Rhys John notched a half-century as Droitwich came up short with a score of 183.
