BROMSGROVE RFC finished their league season with a 17-10 home victory against Old Halesonians.

The Boars secured a third place finish in the Regional 1 Midlands table as James Gunther and Callum Megram crossed for tries at Finstall Park.

And the game doubled up as the club’s first fixture of the North Midlands Cup with Bromsgrove to play away at Bournville II in their next cup match on Saturday, April 27.

After a hard-hitting opening to the game, Boars captain Ed Spalding suffered a serious injury on the 20-minute mark which led to a lengthy stoppage.

Upon the game’s resumption, the home side took the lead when Will Harris kicked a penalty to open the scoring.

And the Boars crossed for the game’s first try as hooker Gunther gathered the ball at the back of the maul and the pack charged over the line before Harris added the extras.

Old Halesonians slotted a penalty of their own shortly before the break as the Boars went into the interval with a seven-point lead.

And Bromsgrove stretched their lead when Megram slipped through a tackle to dot down and Harris converted.

The visitors claimed a losing bonus point with a converted try under the posts as the Boars finished their league campaign with a sixth successive home win.
