WI to hold wartime singalong on Bromsgrove High Street

Bromsgrove Editorial 25th Jun, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

SONGS from the Second World War will be performed in Bromsgrove High Street at 2pm this Saturday (June 28) on National Armed Forces Day.

Members of the public are welcome to join in with the songs which will be sang by a pop-up choir that has been created by the Bromsgrove WI groups.

The event, which will also feature poems and readings from old newspapers and an air raid warden’s logbook, will be staged outside the Oxfam charity shop.

Songsheets will be provided and those who go along are also urged to take along their family photos.

Jules Evans, who has co-ordinated the event, said: “It will be quite poignant with this year being the centenary of the First World War and it was because of that conflict that the WIs were first formed.”

The WI movement will mark its own centenary next year and, at the same time, Bromsgrove WI will toast its 90th.
