A NATIONAL pharmacy chain has pledged to raise a massive £250,000 for the Stroke Association after being inspired by the good work being done at Bromsgrove’s Life After Stroke Centre.

As part of that drive the company’s director of transformation Chris Ellett will be undertaking 12 fund-raising events in 12 months.

“I went to the Life After Stroke Awards and saw some remarkable people who had suffered a stroke and been through a long journey back to to recovery.

“Particularly for me, there were two or three individuals similar to me, very active, who had had a stroke and basically had to learn how to walk, read, write and speak again.”

Chris is looking forward to the bigger events, such as the Iron Man challenge in September, as they will be the most mentally challenging and could take him up to 12 or 13 hours.

He will also take on the London Marathon and the Great Wall of China.

Chris, who visited the Bromsgrove centre, has already collected £2,000 for the cause.

“I saw first-hand during my visit what an absolutely vital resource the Stroke Helpline is for stroke survivors.

“The Helpline Information Officers, like Sarah Whitfield, work extremely hard to provide an outstanding level of care and support to everyone touched by the devastating impact of stroke.

“I’d like to personally thank the team for taking the time to explain the life-changing work they do in the community.”

Well Pharmacy is also promoting the ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ campaign in April when free checks and consultations will be held at all the stores. They are aimed at reducing the risk of stoke in local communities.

Juliana Oliver, account manager from the Stroke Association said the charity was really excited about Well Pharmacy’s fund-raising and Chris’ ambitious challenges.

“As well as endurance events he’s also taking time out in Bromsgrove to learn about our stroke information helpline. “Frankly, he’s a bit of a superman and we’re really grateful to have such energetic and dedicated support from Well helping us to prevent strokes.”
