WORCESTERSHIRE’S young budding politicians had the chance to sit down with the real deal to discuss the importance of involving young people in politics.
As part of UK Parliament Week (November 6 to 12), Worcestershire’s Youth Cabinet got together with Steve MacKay Worcestershire County Councillor Steve MacKay and MP Robin Walker.
Councillor Steve Mackay, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Worcestershire County Council said: “It was great to meet with some of our county’s young people and hear them speak so passionately about the issues affecting them.
“I hope more young people are encouraged to get involved with the Make Your Mark survey to share their views and really make a difference to young people in Worcestershire and across the UK.”
UK Parliament Week (UKPW) is an annual event, spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved.
Worcestershire Youth Cabinet is a group of young people aged 11 to 18 who aim to provide young people across the county with a voice that is heard by providers of services for youngsters and government – locally, regionally and nationally.
Anusha Salhan, Chair of Worcestershire Youth Cabinet said: “The importance of getting involved in politics cannot be stressed enough – it’s not just about shaping the future, but also about being a part of it.
“Engaging with politics allows us to voice our opinions, advocate for change, and participate in the decision-making processes that shape our lives.
She added: “The Worcestershire Youth Cabinet is a platform designed to help you do just that. It’s a place where you can gain valuable experience in public speaking.
“It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in the local issues that affect your community and find ways to address them. Most importantly, it’s a place where your voice can truly make an impact.”
This comes as the British Youth Council has launched their next Make Your Mark survey, the biggest annual referendum of teenagers in the UK.
Registration is now open for young people, schools, colleagues and youth groups to sign up and help shape the priorities for young people for 2024.
