The first images of Bromsgrove's proposed new Waitrose development

HERE are the first pictures and plans of Bromsgrove’s Waitrose-led development, as revealed in last week’s Standard.

The pictures show the two-storey £1.4million Little Waitrose store, which will be built on the Junction of Hannover Street, Kidderminster Road and St John’s Street, along with the second – larger – part of the development which will house three units.

Among them will be one of 1,500sq ft, a central one of 10,000sq ft and a third of 3,000sq ft.

The developers are hoping to submit the plans for the Waitrose and the 86-space car park to Bromsgrove District Council in the coming weeks and then, provided that gets given the go ahead, a second application for the three retail units will be submitted.

Jon Hinton, from Hinton Group, has confirmed the company is already in talks with operators for those units and it is hoped some ‘high quality’ retailers will be brought in to complement the Waitrose.

If all goes according to plan, work will start in early 2016 with the Waitrose being completed and open for business this time next year.

A Waitrose spokesperson said: “We have had an aspiration to open a Waitrose branch in Bromsgrove for some time and believe that the proposal brought forward Hinton Properties offers an exciting opportunity to revitalise a prominent site close to the High Street.

“It will bring new investment, retail and restaurants which can benefit the town in the long term as well as creating new jobs for local people.”
