THE FINAL of the 37th Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition recently took place at Bromsgrove School with talented violinist Emily Sun winning £6,000, writes Tom Martin.

Emily, who is 25, was born in Australia and after studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she moved to London.

Since 2011 she has been studying at the Royal College of Music where she graduated Masters of Music with first class honours.

She made her concerto debut with the East-West Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten and has since been a soloist with orchestras all over Australia, as well as in the US, China and Russia.

She also regularly performs in recitals, and this year has played in the Wigmore Hall and Buckingham Palace.

Other finalists were 21-year-old pianist Wyn Chan, from Cumbria, and cellist Wayne Kwon, also aged 21, from South Korea, who won £3,000 each.

Pianist Dominic Degavino, 21, from Peterborough, also performed and won the Sir John Manduell Prize (£1,000) for the best performance of a work composed since 1950.

Another prize of £500 was awarded at the end of the first round to Hayley Parkes.
