SEVEN people were injured in a two-car crash in Bromsgrove on Sunday afternoon (May 1).

The incident, involving a blue BMW and a silver Volvo, happened at 4pm on the Bromsgrove Highway at the Slideslow Island.

One patient was trapped in one of the vehicles for around 40 minutes.

Firefighters, using several different kinds of cutting equipment, cut them free and they, having suffered a leg fracture, were flown to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital by the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Two others – a man in his 40s with a fractured arm and a woman in her 40s with minor injuries – were taken via ambulance to Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital.

Two ‘walking wounded’ were taken in another ambulance to the Alex.

A third ambulance took two others to the Alex – one, suffering chest pain, was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board and another, with rib and knee pain.

The ages of those involved ranged from 30 to mid-60s.

Highways England also attended and road closures were in place from Slideslow Island until the road was cleared at about 8.25pm.

West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 with the reference number 453s of May 1.
