Residents urged to use NHS 111 for help with seasonal illness, such as flu and tummy bugs

WITH seasonal illnesses like flu and tummy bugs circulating, local doctors are reminding people of the telephone health service that can help them access health services.

They say if people are generally fit and healthy and don’t need A&E or to call 999, then NHS 111 makes it easy to access healthcare advice when you need medical help fast, but it’s not a life-threatening situation.

NHS 111 is a free number, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The service is manned by trained call handlers with nurses on site to offer support if needed. Callers’ symptoms are assessed, and they are given the healthcare advice they need or are directed immediately to the right service.

Dr Carl Ellson, Strategic Clinical Lead for Worcestershire’s doctors said: “Whatever your need is, NHS 111 will ensure that you get the right care, from the right person, as quickly as possible.”
