Police witness appeal following road death tragedy in Rubery

A WOMAN in her 70s died after being hit by a car outside the Co-op in New Road, Rubery, at 10.30am on Wednesday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed an ambulance, paramedic area support officer and BASICS medic attended to the scene.

But she said, despite the best efforts of staff, nothing could be done to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the woman’s family had been informed and an investigation had been launched in a bid to ascertain what happened.

The female driver and two young boys who were in the car were shaken but uninjured and did not need hospital treatment.

Sgt Dave Hind, from the Worcestershire Road Policing Unit, has urged anyone who saw anything and had not yet contacted police to call 101.

He said, in particular, there was a man walking a dog near to the scene who officers were keen to speak to.
