A DRIVER had to be cut from a car after a crash on the southbound M42 between Junction 3 (Redditch and Birmingham South) and Junction 2 (Hopwood).

The vehicle left the carriageway just before 7pm last night (Sunday) after the 44-year-old had a medical episode at the wheel.

The car went down an embankment and ended up in the bushes.

Two crews – one from Bromsgrove and one from Redditch – attended and the nine firefighters worked to cut the man from the car.

An ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Hazard Area Response Team from West Midlands Ambulance Service attended.

After being released from the vehicle paramedics helped up the embankment and treated him for a head injury before he was taken to Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital.

The vehicle was made safe by firefighters and all was completed by 9.34pm.
