Commuter calls for more to be done to prevent roads around Bromsgrove's new railway station flooding

A BROMSGROVE resident has called on Highways chiefs to sort out the problem of roads surrounding the town’s new station flooding.

Cyril Day contacted The Standard about the issue which, he said, meant many commuters, particularly those living on Breme Park had to wade through water whenever there is heavy rain.

He said deluges caused a build up of water on South Road and other routes made the journey to the station very uncomfortable for commuters.

He added he accepted that not many people wanted a through route from the estate to the station but said whenever there were discussions and consultations about the development, he always attended to ask Worcestershire Highways representatives if measures could be put in place to sort out the drainage issues and prevent water build up.

He said despite his requests, he has received no positive response and something needed to be done.

The latest occasion when the South Road was flooded was last Monday (November 21).

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of occasional flooding issues in this location.

“There will be a scheme starting in the new year in order to facilitate drainage on South Road.”
