A BROMSGROVE nursing home is inviting the community to find out how it is helping their residents become healthier and more active.

Partnered with health platform, Amaven, St John’s Court will open its doors on Wednesday, January 25, to professionals, organisations and charities to show the impact of the Amaven Seniors programme.

Aiming to improve the wellbeing and independence of the older people in their care, the programme has two aspects, one is an assessment, tracking and reporting tool and the other is an exercise programme.

Laura Wilkes, manager at St John’s Court, said: “We have been very fortunate to be included in the Amaven Senior’s pilot which will help our ladies and gentlemen to improve mobility, dexterity and wellbeing, while reducing the risk of falls.

“We have weekly moves which are displayed and all members of the team try to encourage this within their daily support, together with twice weekly exercise classes, which are more structured, and these are very popular.”

Research commissioned by the Associated Retirement Community Operators (ARCO) showed 70 per cent of over 65s want to be more active, yet they face a range of practical and financial barriers.

Tania Swift, Amaven seniors programme leader, said: “It has been exciting seeing how the programme has supported the staff at St Johns Court Nursing Home to become more aware of the overall health of the people they care for and how to support them to be healthier and happier.”

The event will take place from 8am to 9am and between 5.30pm to 6.30pm on January 25. There will also be a variety of cakes, pastries and refreshments for all who attend.
