STAFF and students at South Bromsgrove High are celebrating after the school was named in the top 100 non-selective state schools in the UK for 2015/16.

The ranking, which earned a letter of praise from Nick Gibb, Minister for Schools, was based on the school’s achievement in English. mathematics, science, geography, history and modern foreign languages.

Mr Gibb stated in his letter to headteacher Paul Topping: “These subjects are vital for giving pupils the best start in life and ensure they have the widest range of opportunities available to them.”

A total of 73 per cent of students achieved the gold standard of five or more high level GCSEs and 51 per cent achieved those in core subjects lauded by the Minister – the English Baccalaureate.

Mr Topping said: “I have already written back to Nick Gibb to thank him for his letter.

“I’m delighted for students, staff, parents and Governors that the school’s continuing success is recognised and applauded at the highest levels of Government.”

The school’s next open evening is on October 6. Call 01527 831783 for more.
