Bromsgrove ladies get pretty muddy and raise £8,500 for charity

A TEAM of 30 fighting-fit Bromsgrove ladies got together last weekend to run, bounce and slide through mud in aid of charity.

The group from Bromsgrove based gym Crossfit Worcestershire took part in the Race for Life Pretty Muddy event at Cofton Park in Birmingham last Saturday (July 15) raising £8,500 for Cancer Research.

Dressed in pink, the women joined thousands of others to complete the course and the day was especially poignant as three of the girls on the team have all lost mums to cancer.

Runner Karen Roberts, who lost her mum eight months ago, not only completed the run but also organised a fund-raising BBQ in her garden after the race and invited people to come and socialise whilst continuing the fundraising theme.

Karen and her husband Wayne hosted a whole evening of activities including a cake sale, games, quad biking, pool tennis and even an auction. The Crossfit Worcestershire community provided cakes, brought food and donated raffle prizes.

Karen said; “I am overwhelmed by the amount of money we’ve raised and by people’s generosity.

“The day was something I was dreading since I only lost my mum last year. The day was filled with very sad memories and I was very emotional, but having everyone around me for support and helping raise money for a great cause gave me incredible strength. I got through the day and actually enjoyed it.

“I’ll do all I can to support a cause that will stop me losing another loved one.

“My loss and my pain is not unique we are all affected so let’s try and get a cure sooner and lets have our loved ones around for longer.”
