Bromsgrove carers go above and beyond for Dementia Action Week

CARERS from Bluebird Care Bromsgrove and Redditch are going above and beyond to raise awareness, and funds, this Dementia Action Week.

As more people live into old age, cases of dementia are becoming far more common, with 1.6 million people expected to have the condition by 2040.

Witnessing the rise in complex care requirements first-hand, Bluebird Care Bromsgrove & Redditch’s care team pledged to support both Dementia UK and South Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind throughout the year to help combat these new challenges.

Recently the team cooked up a storm as they participated in Dementia UK’s national ‘Time for a Cuppa’ fundraising initiative.

Carers donated their time and culinary skills to invite members of the local community to engage in frank conversations about dementia over sweet treats and a cup of tea, raising a total of £60.

This initiative was a welcome treat to the local care team, who had previously challenged themselves to complete 50 squats every day throughout March, raising £161 in total for South Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind.

Katy Thompson, lead supervisor at Bluebird Care Bromsgrove & Redditch, said: “This Dementia Action Week, we are proud to back efforts to support people living with dementia both nationally and locally.

“Particularly as dementia becomes more common, it is crucial that charities, communities, and local providers are fully equipped to support people with the condition to lead happy and fulfilling lives.”

Ranjot Khatra, Director of Bluebird Care Bromsgrove & Redditch, said: “It was a delight to see so many members of the community attend our tea party in support of Dementia UK.

“My legs were burning after our March fundraising challenge for South Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind, so I welcomed the opportunity to raise local awareness and funds in a less gruelling capacity.”
