A NEW community cafe is offering a warm welcome to visitors at a local community hall in Bromsgrove.
Muntjacs Cafe will open its doors at Blackwell Community Hall for the first time on Saturday, April 20 offering freshly ground coffe, handmade cakes and other refreshments.
The cafe, which will be open between 10am and 2pm every Saturday, is the first project following the installation of a £20,000 commercial kitchen at the hall.
Naomi Pauley, one of the organisers, said the new venture run entirely by volunteers, was designed to enhance the village community and offer a guarantee of company for anyone in and around Blackwell feeling lonely and in need of a chat.
She said: “The hall exists for the community, to be a focal point for the village and provide a space for the people of Blackwell and the neighbouring areas to meet together.
“And we thought a café was the best way to achieve this and, at the same time, provide something in the community that we don’t currently have.
“If Muntjacs Café can become known as a place for people to meet friends and to make friends, then we’ll have succeeded in what we’re trying to achieve.”
Hall committee chair Terry Pauley explained the new café was just a part of the development of a building for people in the community and beyond.
“The hall’s been available for hire for a while, but it had an atrociously bad kitchen!” he said. “Now people can come in and properly cook – so we finally have the complete package.
“The building is very warm and welcoming, and we really hope the new kitchen will attract more people to use the hall.”
