DONINGTON Training is offering two courses at Alvechurch Village Hall on Wednesdays from January 19, 2022, an afternoon course in Assertiveness and an evening course in Helping Skills.
Both courses are practical with students working on applying the ideas to their own situations.
The Assertiveness course helps people to learn about what they really want in any situation and the Helping Skills course is about helping others to help themselves.
The skills go from conversation to counselling, from training and teaching to coaching.
The approach started out from training doctors to relate more successfully with their patients. In practice, though, it works from 10 minutes with a stranger at a bus stop to 10 years with a patient in psychotherapy.
The learning is interactive and informal, drawing on students’ own experiences. No one, though, has to share anything they don’t want to, and everything personal is confidential.
The emphasis is on enjoying learning and students will be able to apply their knowledge in many situations – social, family or professional.
Donington Training is a partnership of skilled, experienced and qualified trainers.
Jean Brant has a nursing and health visiting background, and was a senior lecturer in Public Health for 15 years and John Talbut has been in private practice as an adult education tutor and a counsellor since 1986.
The courses are not for profit and students are asked to pay what they think each course is worth to them and that they can afford. Any money made goes to the Village Hall and other voluntary organisations in the village.
