Taylor the hero in AFC Northfield cup upset

SCOTT Taylor was the match-winner as AFC Northfield produced an upset in the Worcester Nursing Cup.

The Bromsgrove League side knocked out one of the best Worcester League sides in claiming a 1-0 win away to Perrywood.

Meadow Park, 3-2 winners at Drakes Broughton Rangers, plus Hawthorns and BGIS Fairfield, who defeated league rivals Bromsgrove Athletico and Pilkington Sunday respectively, also progressed to the third round.

Brad Bullimore’s early goal for BGIS was cancelled out by Junior Hewitt’s lob, but Connor Collins slotted home from Jordan Allmark’s cross, and skipper Luke Ellett made it 3-1. Sporting Grapevine bowed out after conceding three goals in a six-minute spell to lose 3-1 at Grapes, with Richard Halls hitting a late consolation effort.




Jason Gibbons smashed five goals – and missed a penalty – to help fire Awkies Allstars to a 5-0 win at Drakes Broughton Rangers Reserves in the Worcester Nursing Minor Cup.

Studley Lions also progressed after an amazing second-half display to score 12 goals against league rivals Millfield Rovers. Nick Briggs led the way with four goals, with James Hatfield (3), Marc Jovanovic (2), Ben Ellicott, Matt Edwards and Tommy Blewett also on the scoresheet.


Nathan Steward (2), Richard Burgess, Alan Parkinson and Adam Simpson were the Chaddesley Pensioners scorers in their 5-4 win at Meadow Park Youth while Mitch Sutor notched a late headed winner to seal Winyates’ 2-1 victory at thome to AFC Mazak.

Arrow Valley crashed out 5-3 at Eaton, despite goals from Connor Atkinson, Paul Halfpenny and Harry Harvey, while Chaddesley Ravens and Spa Athletic also exited in home defeats to Droitwich Spa Eagles and FC Korono respectively.

Redditch Borough will fly the flag for the Bromsgrove League in the Birmingham FA Sunday Cup.

They edged out Burton Sunday League side TL Darby on penalties after a 2-2 draw but three other Bromsgrove League outfits were beaten.

AFC Norton and Royal Eagles both went down to Coventry League hosts, losing to Radford Social and Empire Ambush respectively, and Kings Norton Sporting were dumped out by Wolverhampton League side Newbridge.

In the Premier Division, Austin Ex Apprentices chalked up a sixth win from six outings after Liam Spink, Craig Spink and Sam Wills sealed a 3-1 win at home to Black Horse, who replied through a Jak Walton own goal.

Adam Garmson scored twice and Lewis McPike and TJ Mendez also netted in Rubery United’s 4-0 success against Chaddesley Corbett.
