BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Paul Smith says his team has the ability to beat anyone in the FA Vase after his in-form side were drawn against Sun Sports FC in the national competition.

Smith was left delighted after his side booked their place in the fourth round for the first time in the club’s history after a ‘professional’ 2-0 away win against Nuneaton Griff.

Jason Cowley scored the opener before an own goal midway through the second half ensured the Rouslers would progress through to the Fourth Round for an away trip to the Watford based side on weekend commencing Saturday, January 7.

And Smith told the Standard that he urged his players to grasp a great opportunity to progress through the later stages of the FA vase during his post match team talk.

“I certainly believe the squad I’ve put together here at Bromsgrove is good enough to beat anyone in this competition.,” he said.

“We’ve come through four or five rounds so far and there’s nothing to say we cant progress even further.

“The match against Sun Sports FC be a great away day for the fans and I’ve told the players this is a great chance for them to do well in a national competition and it is important they grasp chances like this.

“If we go down there and play well I can’t see why not we can’t come away with a great result.”

Smith was thrilled with the way his side did the basics in Saturday’s 2-0 win which saw new signing Luke horthouse make his debut as a substitute.

“I thought we were thoroughly professional, I gave the players certain instructions on how to beat Nuneaton and they carried out those intructions out to a tee.”

“Going forward we took the chances when they came and defended resoundly throughout.”

And Shorthouse made an instant impact as soon as he came on, setting up the tie-clinching second goal.

Smith was full of praise for his new hit-man striker.

“Luke Shorthouse is a quality act, there’s no doubt about that,” he added.

“I am sure he will cause teams all kinds of problems for us as the season goes on. It was great to get him on the pitch and see him look a handful to Nuneaton.

“He made that big difference when he came off the bench and created the killer goal. He’s fitted in really well.”
