NOMINATIONS are now open for the 2017 Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.

Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire is urging members of the public to put forward candidates who they feel deserve recognition for their sporting achievement and dedication to sport within their community.

Aiming to recognise those people from across the two counties who take part, work, coach and volunteer in sport and physical activity, these awards are an opportunity for local people, clubs and organisations to be celebrated for their hard work, commitment and passion for grassroots sport, as well as those who are participating at both amateur and professional levels.

In order to recognise more deserving recipients, Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire has made some changes to the awards. There are now 12 categories available for nomination, including two new awards.

Stephen Brewster, chief executive officer of Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: “This event is our chance to honour our local sportsmen and women, coaches, volunteers, clubs and officials.

“Over the years, we have received such huge support for the awards. We feel it is important the local community get their say on who has made an impact on sport, young people and communities across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

“Recognising sporting achievements and celebrating good practice within the sporting community is at the very heart of what we do and we will be championing the hard work and talent that exists within Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

“There is no better time to nominate an individual, club or organisation whose achievements deserve to be recognised. If you know people, teams, clubs, organisations or schools who deserve recognition for the achievements or contributions to local sport and physical activity, please take the time to nominate them for the 2017 awards.”

The annual event, attended by more than 250 amateur and professional sports people, local businesses and dignitaries, will take place on Thursday, November 23 at Sixways Stadium in Worcester.

A full list of this year’s categories and registration for nominations can be found at  Nominations will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, September 17.
