JED Abbey and Danny Waldron were on target in successive matches as Alvechurch revived their league season with consecutive victories against AFC Rushden and Diamonds and Stratford Town.

Ian Long’s side finally saw their fairytale run to the FA Cup second round come to an end last weekend and responded in style with a 2-0 win on the road at Rushden before Church battled to a 4-2 home victory against Stratford at Lye Meadow.

The results mean Alvechurch have moved out of the relegation zone and up to 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table with at least five games in hand on the teams above them.

And Abbey opened the scoring after just seven minutes at Rushden’s Hayden Road ground when he curled a sublime first-time effort from 25-yards out into the net.

Church eventually sealed the points on 74 minutes when Waldron scored a sensational solo goal as he beat four defenders before firing a low effort past Dean Snedker.

And both players also found the net against Stratford in midweek after Tom Edge opened the scoring on five minutes when he collected Jack Concannon’s pass and rounded the keeper before tapping home.

Abbey was quick to double Church’s lead on 16 minutes when he scored another trademark free-kick as he drilled the ball low and hard through the wall.

And Waldron settled the game on the stroke of half time with a delightful dinked finish after he was played through by Ben Cassidy’s sublime pass.

Stratford responded on 56 minutes when Dan Lafferty turned the ball home after Dan Jezeph spilled a free-kick into his path.

However, Church restored their three-goal lead on 72 minutes when Tyrell Hamilton finished from Ethan Sephton’s brilliant low cross after Concannon played a fine initial ball towards the full back.

The visitors reduced the deficit on 77 minutes when Will Grocott turned home Will Dawes’ cross but Church comfortable saw out the remaining minutes to secure a much-needed victory as the club look to build some momentum in the league.

Alvechurch are next in action away at Stourbridge on Saturday, December 10 with kick-off at 1pm at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.
