Those eligible for Covid-19 booster jab urged to book appointment

Bromsgrove Editorial 20th Apr, 2024   0

THOSE who are eligible for the spring Covid-19 booster jab are being urged to book an appointment to get their dose.

The latest round of the Covid-19 booster jab is available to those who are eligible across the County from Monday (April 22).

Those eligible for the booster are those aged 75 or over, including those who hit that age by June 30, those in care homes and anyone aged over six months who has a weakened immune system.

The current vaccines protect against severe disease, and hospitalisation and can protect those most vulnerable.

The UK Health Security Agency data shows on last spring’s booster programme those who received the vaccine were around 50 per cent less likely to be admitted to hospital with Covid-19, compared to those who didn’t have one.

Dr Will Taylor, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire said: “We may be a couple of years removed from the Coronavirus Pandemic, but Covid-19 is still with us and still has the potential to put lives at risk.

“It’s important not to be complacent, and protect those in the two Counties who are most vulnerable and susceptible to illness.

“The best way to do that is to have the Covid-19 vaccination booster.

“Don’t wait for an invitation from a GP or other NHS services. Book yourself an appointment today.”
