A WYTHALL mum has been left ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity of her friends and family towards the charity who have support her with support daughter’s diagnosis.

Cara Bosworth’s daughter, Nellie, was born in February and immediately taken to the neonatal ICU, as she had breathing difficulties.

When Nellie was just three days old she became jaundiced and had to have fortnightly blood tests even after she was discharged in March.

Cara said Nellie was admitted for further tests and in May she was diagnosed with Alagille syndrome.

The rare genetic condition affects about one in every 30,000 babies and it can affect the heart, kidneys, eyes and bones as well as the liver.

Cara said it was a specialist nurse at Birmingham Women and Children’s Hospital who told her about Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) which has given her a network to ask question and share worried with.

The 32-year-old said: “The team at CLDF understand what I’m going through and it’s really comforting to know that I’m not alone.

“They have encouraged me through difficult moments, such as when Nellie had to have an nasogastric tube fitted, as she struggles to gain weight.”

Inspired by her neice Cara’s sister, and birthing partner, Sophie challenged herself to take on the Black Country Triathlon in aid of CLDF.

On the day Sophie was cheered on at the sidelines by Cara and her number one supporter, Nellie.

So far she has raised over £3,000 – more than double what she had initially set out to raise.

Cara said: “We’ve been very surprised at how generous people have been.

“It shows how loved Nellie is. Her first few months have been really tough, but she is such a strong happy little girl. She just brings me so much joy, she is literally my everything.”
