THE ANNUAL debating competition sponsored by the two Rotary Clubs was a closely contested affair with South Bromsgrove High School narrowly triumphing over North Bromsgrove High by the smallest of margins.
The annual debate, organised by the Rotary Clubs of North Worcestershire and Bromsgrove, was held at Droitwich Golf Club in memory of Michael Holt.
Michael was a keen debater and a former member of the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire.
This year the two teams debated the motion ‘This house believes that the principle of democratic government has become less popular around the world and is being replaced by unelected bodies’.
A very high standard of debate saw excellent points raised by both sides leaving the judges, nominated by the two Rotary Clubs, with a difficult decision.
They eventually voted in favour of the South Bromsgrove High School team.
