SCHOOLS across Bromsgrove and Droitwich have been paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth II this week.

At South Bromsgrove High, a slightly extended registration was held last Friday morning where tutors spoke with students about the Queens’ death.

Following the session, the staff played the famous ‘marmalade sandwich’ Jubilee video between the Queen and Paddington Bear.

Then on Wednesday, a special assembly was held with Year 11 students reflecting on the Queen’s life and legacy.

Bromsgrove School has led a series of tributes, including a two-minute silence at midday on Friday on the school’s central green.

All sports matches held at the school this week also observed a minute of silence.

On Friday the union flag on school grounds was lowered to half-mast and the chapel bell rang out for an hour from midday.

The chapel remained open all day for anyone to reflect and light a candle.

No sports matches were held on Saturday, then on Wednesday morning a memorial service was held in the Chapel for Prep School and Pre-Prep Year Two pupils to remember the life of the Queen.

Alongside a minute of silence, North Bromsgrove decorated the school building in Union Jacks and special assemblies were held for all year groups.

The school also took to Twitter to pay tribute to the Queen.

Deputy head Anna Ingram wrote on the social media platform: “We are saddened to hear of the death of our Queen.

“An incredible lifetime of achievements and duty to the country. Selfless, dignified and family orientated: qualities to be admired by us all. Condolences to all affected by her loss.”

In Droitwich, Witton Middle School put together a commemorative display remembering the Queen in the foyer.

They also observed a one-minute silence on Friday and assemblies were held throughout the week.

A Witton spokesperson described the Queen as “a pillar of hope that will forever be in the hearts of the people.”
