NORTH Bromsgrove High School welcomed MP Sajid Javid to officially open its revamped Sixth Form Centre.

The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills unveiled a plaque to mark the new facilities on what was a busy day for the school, which also hosted a get-together in the revamped area on the evening for its alumni.

Previous pupils were guests of honour as they went along to see the improved facilities, now relocated at the heart of the school.

Mr Javid spoke to headteacher David Hadley-Pryce and sixth formers, head boy, Noah Dixon, and deputy head girl, Emmeline Trenchard-Mole about how the new facilities and upgraded technology centre were enhancing and supporting their A level study.

Mr Javid said: “I would like to see more schools doing work like this, thinking how they can manage their facilities – not just for studying, but how modern students interact.

“It’s good to see new computers and terminals – if students are going to do well, it’s important to give them the tools they need.

“I think it’s great that they have this investment. It’s got to help the students and focus them.

“It’s going to help them get the skills they want and help them when they are making important decisions about their futures.”

Head of sixth form Sarah Figg said: “We were delighted Mr Javid could join us to see our vibrant and successful sixth form in action.

“Our new refurbishments were designed to further enrich the experience of the growing number of sixth formers here at North.”

The new Sixth Form facilities feature three large study rooms and a new dry art area for students to work and display their endeavours.

Alongside these spacious dedicated sixth form areas are the main school library, access to state of the art ICT suites and an extensive Apple Mac suite.

The evening event saw former and current sixth form students and teachers celebrate North’s successful history as they toasted its future success.
