THE COMEDY ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’ will be staged by Rubery Drama Group in the village next week.
The story centres on a washed-up Hollywood superstar who arrives in England thinking he going to be playing the tite role in ‘King Lear’ in Stratford-upon-Avon.
But, in reality, rather than Shakespeare’s birthplace, he is in the Suffolk village of Stratford St John, playing alongside the group of enthusiastic – but not very talented – ‘Stratford Players’.
He arrives in the UK with his career on a downward slope and amidst family problems.
His new fellow cast members, in the meantime, are delighted to have such a renowned actor in their ranks.
Performances take place at the Beacon Church Centre, Whetty Lane, at 7.30pm from Thursday to Saturday, April 18 to 20.
Tickets – at £8 (£7 concessions) – are available on-the-door or by calling 0121 453 8733 or 0121 445 2323.
Alternatively, contact the group through the Rubery Drama Group Facebook page.
