WEST MERCIA Police have moved to clear up a situation where an armed officer was spotted, complete with firearm, in Bromsgrove town centre.
The Standard was contacted this afternoon by a concerned resident who was worried about the sight in the High Street earlier today (Wednesday).
The man, who does not want to be named, said: “I was startled to witness this as I thought our police were unarmed.
“Unless there has been a change of policy.”
The man snapped the officer who was walking along the High Street and milling around among shoppers.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said there was no record of any specific calls requiring armed officers in Bromsgrove today.
He added some armed officers were based in the area and remained armed all times in case they were call to an incident which required an armed response.
