Redditch and Bromsgrove Talking Newspaper now available on smart speakers

Bromsgrove Editorial 18th Feb, 2021   0

THE REDDITCH and Bromsgrove Talking Newspaper (R&BTN) is now available to listen to via home smart speakers, such as Alexa.

The move which makes it even more accessible has come thanks to a link-up with Sight Concern Worcester.

The R&BTN charity, run by local volunteers for more than 40 years, has ensured during the pandemic that people with visual impairments did not miss out on their local news.

The edition each week includes stories from the Bromsgrove and Redditch Standards and other titles.

As well as the smart speakers, the weekly editions are also available online via the Internet, tablets or smartphone apps.

The charity’s chair of trustees Margaret Mountford said: “It’s now an entirely hands free operation, provided free of charge to listeners who already have a smart speaker, so it’s very user friendly, not only for the visually impaired, but also for people with disabilities and illnesses such as Parkinson’s, who would struggle to use other devices.”

She thanked all the volunteers who made the innovation possible.
