A HAGLEY school has been praised for going above and beyond for its pupils’ wellbeing.
Hagley Primary School was given the Thrive School of Excellence Award – an accolade which recognises ‘extraordinary’ schools which have a positive impact on their pupils and communities by prioritising emotional wellbeing.
To earn the award, schools need to undergo a rigorous assessment process by the organisation with in-depth evidence needed and a visit from Thrive.
Headteacher Vanessa Payne said she and the staff were all absolutely delighted to receive the accolade and also to have the school’s focus and success on wellbeing recognised and celebrated during a very recent Ofsted inspection.
“Children and adult mental health and wellbeing is a pivotal focus of our work in school,” she said. “We are proud of our achievements and will be ensuring that our practice continues to grow, evolve and become further embedded both within and beyond the curriculum.”
The School of Excellence award is the highest level of achievement in Thrive’s Ambassador Schools scheme, launched in 2020 as a way of recognising excellence in member schools.
Coun Tracey Onslow, cabinet member with responsibility for education at Worcestershire County Council, added: “I am really pleased to see our schools are educating their pupils on the importance of starting and then keeping the conversation and support going about emotional wellbeing and resilience.”
