Motorcyclist airlifted after Bromsgrove morning crash

A MOTORCYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital after sustaining serious head and other injuries in a crash in Bromsgrove this morning (Wednesday).

The incident, involving the motorbike and a car, happened about 7.40am on the A448 Kidderminster Road, at the junction of Fockbury Road, in Dodford.

Staff in a non-emergency patient transport vehicle came across the crash and provided aid until the two ambulances, paramedic area support officer, doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance with specialist trauma doctor arrived.

The rider, a man in his 40s, was found some distance from the bike and, because of the nature of his injuries, was anaesthetised at the scene by the Midlands Air Ambulance doctor. He was then flown to the major trauma centre at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

There were three people in the car – a father and two young daughters. They were shaken by the incident but were otherwise unhurt.

Because of the seriousness of the crash, the road had to be closed in both directions, causing major disruption during the morning rush hour, until it was reopened about 11.30am. That was after the recovery of the two vehicles.

Appealing for witnesses, PC Michael Haines said the rider had some very serious injuries and it was important to establish exactly what had happened.

“We have spoken to some witnesses already but we urgently need to talk to anyone else who was there and saw what happened or noticed either the bike or the car on that road before the collision.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call PC Haines on 101.
