AN ELDERLY man has suffered serious head injuries after being assaulted in Bromsgrove late on Monday night (September 5).

The incident happened after the 70-year-old returned to his home in Ford Road between 10.30pm and 11.30pm.

He heard a knock on the door and when he opened it he was struck on the head with an unknown object.

It is not thought anyone entered his property and nothing is believed to have been taken.

Det Con Philip Shadwell, leading the investigation, said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack that has left the victim with significant injuries.”

He said he wanted to reassure the community this was an isolated incident but appealed for any witnesses to the attack or anyone with any information to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
