Bromsgrove Editorial 17th Aug, 2023 Updated: 17th Aug, 2023   0

SUCCESS was on the timetable for students in Bromsgrove as they eagerly waited to find out their A-Level results.

Students across the town travelled back to their schools or sixth forms today to see if they got the grades needed to go to university, earn an apprenticeship or get their dream job.

This summer has seen a return to pre-pandemic grading in England, with some protection put in place to recognise any disruption students have faced due to Covid.

The results are in at NBHS and it’s a strong set of grades across the board.

Many students have achieved the necessary results to pursue further studies at their chosen institutions and post 18 destinations, with lots of students gaining entry to top universities and places on degree level apprenticeships.

Stand out performances include Luke Galt achieving 3 A*’s and an A, Amelia Duke gaining an A*, 2 A’s and a B and Polly Ellis gaining straight A’s.

Headteacher, Nick Gibson said: “We are delighted with our Sixth Form students who have achieved another pleasing set of examination results this year.

“The strong set of results are a testament to our students’ hard work and diligence, support from parents and our committed staff.”

Director of Sixth Form, Daniel Taylor added, “We are extremely proud of these students. They have demonstrated commitment, determination and engagement throughout their time with us and we are confident that they are all ready for the next stages in their lives.”

North Bromsgrove High School Sixth Form is still open for enquiries from Year 11 students and external students still unsure of their next academic step.

Contact is recommended by the 31 August via [email protected].

Waseley Hills High School and Sixth Form

Waseley pupils are looking forward to progressing onto university, apprenticeships and employment following a high number of A*-C results across the board.

Particularly high results came in ICT, where nearly all students achieved A* or A and sociology, where 60 per cent of students achieved A* to B grades.

School leaders are pleased to be waving students into places at top universities including Lancaster University, Keele University, the University of Birmingham, the University of Bristol, the University of Liverpool and the University of Manchester.

Stand out performances include Ellie Marriot, who achieved AAB and will be studying mathematics at Lancaster University, Jack Burns who also achieved AAB and will be completing an apprenticeship in project management and finally, Callum Hill, who again achieved AAB and will be studying mechanical engineering at the University of Birmingham.

Tom Preston Head of Waseley Hills High School said: “We are so proud of our Year 13 pupils here.

“These results are a testament to their hard work and dedication and their ability to deal with an examination series despite not having experienced it in Year 11 due to the pandemic.

“Their capabilities and resilience are inspiring.

“I look forward to my first year in post and am excited to see continued improvements in outcomes year on year.

“I am confident our students will be successful in their future endeavours and I wish them all the best.”

South Bromsgrove High School and Sixth Form

A range of students will be progressing onto universities, apprenticeships and employment opportunities following the latest set of A-level and BTEC results for the sixth form.

The school is particularly proud of four students -Will Whitman, Ioan Roberts, Jared McLean and Bella Hill – who will begin degrees in medicine in September.

And three students – Owen Dyson, Isabella Lawrence and An Lam – were commended for securing university places at Oxbridge.

Headteacher Chris Smith said: “We are delighted at the determination that this cohort of students have shown.

“This is a cohort of students who did not sit GCSEs, and yet they have met the challenges of their A Level and BTEC study with hard work and resilience, and have been ably supported by their subject teachers.”

Director of Sixth Form, Nick Coates, said: “I am so proud of everything the students have achieved.

“Not only have they achieved excellent academic results, but they have led the whole school recovery in terms of extracurricular activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Eisteddfod, the school play, sport, and our Sixth Form teaching assistant programme.

“Our students leave us with more than just their academic qualifications and I wish them all the best for the future.”

Hagley Catholic High School and Sixth Form

The school are celebrating another set of successful results, improving on pre-pandemic achievements from 2019 following a tightening of grade boundaries.

81 per cent of all students achieved A* to C grades, over half (55 per cent) achieved A* to B results and 27 per cent came away with A* to A grades.

Many of the students have received offers to study at Russell Group Universities with two pupils celebrating successful Oxford University places.

Mr Hodgson, principal, said:“Considering the disruption to education experienced by these pupils in the last three years, especially not having sat exams at GCSE in 2021, this is a tremendous achievement and a well-deserved reward for their commitment and resilience.

“We are absolutely delighted that all students have secured a future pathway into Higher Education or an apprenticeship.”

Vice principal and director of sixth form, Mrs Morris said: “We are exceptionally proud of the achievements of every single one of our students, all of whom are moving on to their chosen pathway.

“It has been a privilege to support and guide them during this time and we know that they will continue to fulfill their potential as they move to the next phase in their lives.”
