Lickey charity golf day in aid of Macmillan

A BROMSGROVE man has organised a charity golf day which will see him and three friends take part in 72 holes of golf over the course of 12 hours.

Lee Simmonds, of Rednal, hopes to raise £1,000 for The  Macmillan Trust from playing four rounds at Lickey Hills Golf Course tomorrow (Saturday).

He said: “It will be a bit of fun whilst raising as much money as we can for a charity that does not get recognised very much out on the street, as a lot of the fund-raising gets done in-house.”

The cause is close to Lee’s heart as his family have relied on Macmillan Nurses in the past to help a relative.

Although the group are all keen golfers, they only get the chance to enjoy the sport together around three times a year due to work commitments.

Lee added: “I am really looking forward to it – I can’t wait.

“We are all very excited and although there will be a sense of competition between us, we will keep it friendly.

“It would be a long day to keep up a winning streak.”

The group will tee off at 6am and plan to break after the first rounds, before playing straight through the final two, depending on the weather.
