Fears for child safety over Romsley school parking

A ROMSLEY resident is campaigning to stop parents parking irresponsibly outside a village school.

Stan Francis has taken up the issue surrounding St Kenelms School because he fears that if nothing is done, a child could be seriously injured or killed.

He said: “The cause of the accidents is not speed, it’s due to a one way system created when a line of 30 cars is parked on one side of the road twice a day by parents either dropping off or collecting their children.

“Many years ago I arranged with a local brewery for their two car parks to be used by parents, but they refused to use them.

“Prohibited parking during before and after school times would force the parents to use the car parks, which are free anyway.”

And he said the option of the free parking spaces were still available.

Coun John Smith, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “We are aware of the concerns regarding the parking outside of St Kenelms school, which are similar to conditions that occur in many schools nationwide.

“The issues will be monitored and discussed with the local county councillor for the area.”
