EIGHT more uninsured drivers were taken off the roads of Worcestershire this afternoon by one West Mercia Police team.
Officers from Local Policing Priority Team South seized several vehicles in the space of a few hours as part of Operation Tutelage.
It also coincides with another campaign – Operation Drive Insured – being carried out across the country by police forces across the country. It began on Monday and runs until Sunday, November 1.
Shocking statistics show uninsured and untraced drivers cause almost one in every five crashes and push up insurance costs for law-abiding motorists.
The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) which compensates victims of uninsured drivers has seen claims fall 26 per cent since 2016 but there are concerns the economic impact of Covid-19 could lead to more motorists taking risks and driving without insurance.
Drivers without insurance face their vehicle being seized and potentially crushed, along with a £300 fixed penalty notice and six licence points.
They can also be referred to court and face an unlimited fine and a driving ban. Uninsured convictions also show on basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks which can impact employment prospects.
