County Council says PPE in Worcestershire is in 'good supply'

PERSONAL protective equipment (PPE) is in good supply across the county this month, according to Worcestershire County Council.

The authority has made almost 1,500 deliveries to Worcestershire care homes, schools, GPs, dentists and other organisations over the last few weeks.

It’s a stark difference to the first lockdown 10 months ago when PPE was in short supply.

Council chiefs say they will continue to provide PPE to key workers across the county, and that there is an excess of three months worth of PPE stock still available.

An additional 50 emergency food parcels have been ordered to support people throughout the rest of January and into February.

County Councillor Karen May, cabinet member for transformation and commissioning, said: “The efforts of our commercial team have played a huge part in keeping key services going.

“They have ensured that organisations have what they need to carry on, both now and in the months to come.

“I’m really proud of our approach to meeting requests for PPE.”

The effort has been coordinated with the council’s commercial team which has helped supply and distribute essential items during the pandemic.

They have worked alongside other council colleagues and partner organisations including the NHS.

Nearly £3million has been spent by the authority in response to Covid-19 since March last year.
