A CREW from Bromsgrove Fire Station gave youngsters from Charford First School a helping hand with their Great Fire of London topic.
Around 90 children recreated what London would have looked like back then, making houses from cereal boxes and the firefighters explained why the blaze spread so rapidly – factors demonstrated with a controlled fire.
The children and staff then congregated for an interactive presentation where the children were taught about the progression of the fire service since 1666 using significant dates where important changes happened.
The youngsters also got to see the firefighting equipment and protective clothing, comparing how it had changed to that used four centuries ago.
The children were keen to demonstrate their knowledge of firefighting and were excited to see one of their teachers try out the protective clothing and breathing apparatus.
The day was concluded with the crew talking about fire safety procedures.
