Bromsgrove boy raises £250 for charity

A BROMSGROVE boy has raised more than £250 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital by taking part in the Morrisons Junior Great Birmingham Run.

Sam Hackett, who is nine and attends Millfields First School, only decided he wanted to start running six weeks ago and then signed up to do the 2.5K Second City race.

He started training with his dad three times a week, mostly at weekends, and chose the BCH as he had been a patient there for a number of operations.

He smashed his personal best, notching up a time of 10mins 21secs.

He told The Standard: “I loved doing the run, but found it a little tiring – I was chuffed to beat my personal best.”

He added he was also happy he had raised the money for the hospital which had also helped some of his friends as well as himself as a baby.

He is planning to take on the Timberhonger Children’s Challenge in July and, hopefully the 5K mud run at Eastnor Castle.
