A YOUNG cyclist was taken to hospital after a crash in Longbridge this evening (Sunday).

The incident, involving the 12-year-old on a bike and a car, happened just after 5pm at the junction of Tessall Lane and Hollymoor Way.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed two ambulances and a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.

He was treated at the roadside by medics for a suspected leg fracture and an ankle injury.

He remained conscious throughout his treatment and was immobilised and given pain relief before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Following the crash, a West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: “We would urge all cyclists and motorists to be extra vigilant and look out for each other when out and about on the roads, more so than ever during the current dark nights.”
