Boundary changes scrapped after councillors views

Bromsgrove Editorial 16th Jul, 2024   0

THE LOCAL Government Boundary Commission has announced a number of wards in north Worcestershire will be staying the same after evidence had convinced it to scrap the changes.

Alvechurch and Wythall wards will remain as single-member divisions in Bromsgrove district and the existing boundary will stay between Clent Hills and Woodvale divisions, based on evidence from the community.

It has reviewed Worcestershire county to ensure each councillor represents about the same number of electors and that division arrangements will help the council work effectively.

The Commission has published final recommendations for changes in Worcestershire – there will be 53 divisions in total, with 49 single-councillor divisions and four two-councillor divisions.

Publishing the recommendations, Prof Colin Mellors, Chair of the Commission, said: “We are very grateful to people in Worcestershire.

“We looked at all the views they gave us. They helped us improve our earlier proposals.

“We believe the new arrangements will deliver electoral fairness while maintaining local ties.”

More than 292 people and organisations made comments to help decide the new divisions.

Coun Adam Kent, county councillor for Wythall said: “I am absolutely delighted that the anomaly of a split community that previously saw half of Wythall Parish fall into the Alvechurch Division has been corrected.

“This now means the Worcestershire County Council division of Wythall will finally represent the parish boundaries.”
