Popular Alvechurch pub landlord Chris toasts staff and customers as he announces he's moving on

THE LANDLORD off a popular Alvechurch pub has announced he will be standing down from his role at the end of September.

Chris Lamb said it was a tough decision and he announced it with great sadness after being involved with the pub in one capacity or another since he was 19 years old.

In an emotional post on Facebook, Chris said: “Since taking the reins three years ago, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had my family grow, but that also means that I need to be at home more often than being a landlord allows.

“So I’ve made the decision to move back to my previous career in social housing.”

He thanked his ‘amazing’ team at The Weighbridge who he said had helped him make the pub the wonderful place it was, especially his colleague and friend Caroline.

He said she had not just been an amazing assistant manager but his rock and Wendy who had run the kitchen brilliantly for the past couple of years.

And he thanked every single member of staff who had worked for him, including people in the community who helped serve ale at beer festivals and clear it away.

“Thank you to ABC Leisure, and in particular, Carl Onens, who gave me the chance to keep the pub open after Covid and rebuild it to the wonderful home from home it is.”

His final thanks was to his ‘lovely customers’ who were supporters, neighbours and friends as well as people who came in and spent cash.

He also expressed his gratitude to Redditch and Bromsgrove CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) which, he said, had seen and appreciated all the hard work and had awarded The Weighbridge the Pub of the Year for the last two years in a row.

His last beer festival will be going ahead on September 20 and 21.

Chris added: “It’ll be a much smaller affair than the May festival, but it’ll be showcasing some of the best breweries in the West Midlands alongside some amazing local folk musicians and our beloved Morris sides.”

The search is now on for a new licensee who is passionate about real ale and the community.
