POLICE have managed to detain the two dogs they were looking for, following the death of a man in Frankley on Wednesday.

Officers put out an appeal for help tracking them down yesterday.

The dogs were found by a member of the public in Northfield around 9.30am today. They were located on grass land off Merritts Hill – some two-and-a-half miles away from Hereford Close where the man was found.

They were detained by specialist dog handlers and have now been taken into kennels for further assessments. These tests will be carried out to confirm their breed and the results should be available by next week.

Police attended the incident in Hereford Close where a man aged 33 was found dead in the back garden of a property.

A post-mortem was carried out today to establish his cause of death. Police are working the belief he had been attacked by at least one dog, which may have contributed to his death.

Two dogs were seized at the scene by officers, but two more were at large and police launched an appeal to find them.

None of the dogs involved were believed to be a banned breed – they were both American Bulldog-types.

Yesterday, police also carried out house-to-house enquiries, reviewed CCTV and used specialist dog officers and a drone unit in a bid to find the dogs.

The pair were located this morning and West Midlands Police has thanked everyone who helped by sharing the appeal and searching.
