FIRE crews have put out a blaze at the Bilberry Centre in Rose Hill, near the Lickey Hills.

The fire broke out tonight around 8pm when several 999 calls from people who saw smoke billowing from the building.

Four crews attended the incident, including two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue – both from Bromsgrove and an aerial ladder platform engine from Worcester.

The other crew was a West Midlands Fire Service one from Stourbridge.

The fire was on the first floor of a derelict building and was extinguished by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two water jets.

The building was ventilated using positive pressure ventilation and searches were carried out for any further fires in the premises.

Rose Hill was closed due to the incident and while it was being dealt with.

The fire crews left around 9.35pm.

It is not yet known how the fire was started.

We reported back in August last year about plans for a discovery centre at Cofton Park. The Lickey Hills Society called for the Bilberry Centre to be redeveloped and used instead to house the attraction.

A month later (September, 2023), Birmingham City Council said the 1970s extension of the iconic historic building would be demolished after an arson attack.
