Avoncroft organises old-fashioned family day out

MORE than 500 people went along to Avoncroft Museum over the bank holiday weekend to enjoy a good old-fashioned family day out.

And, in keeping with tradition, the weather lived up to its British reputation with plenty of wind and rain on bank holiday Monday (August 31).

But, despite that, visitors had a great time trying out past times, such as welly wanging and folk dancing, got creative doing willow weaving and making corn favours and they also got to enjoy live music, pony rides, swing boats, archery and a ride on the miniature railway.

Simon Carter, Avoncroft Museum’s director, said: “We had a lot more people than we expected with the weather the way it was – hats off to those people who came and braved the rain.

“We had some great feedback about the ‘Day in the Country’ event with people saying how much they really enjoyed having a go at some traditional games.”
