RUBERY’S Jack’s Supermarket will close on March 21 and will reopen in May as a large Tesco store.
Bosses confirmed the timescale for the changes this week after revealing earlier this month it was bringing the Jack’s project to an end.
Jack’s branded produce will be available to independent convenience stores supplied by Tesco’s wholesale business Booker but they will not be available in the Tesco branches.
A spokesperson said: “Within Tesco stores we will be offering Tesco branded products, including our Low Everyday Prices range and Aldi Price Match, but not Jack’s branded products.”
The news has received a mixed response from shoppers who have contacted the Standard.
Peter Need said: “I have always loved Jack’s and I will miss this shop when it goes back to Tesco.”
But H Atkinson added: “Tesco was a lovely store prior to making into Jack’s.
“It was light and airy, not too large with a good layout of goods. I know many people including myself who shopped there, regularly finding it a pleasant store.
“The staff were so pleasant too, I hope they come back to the new Tesco.
“I do hope when the store is refurbished back to Tesco that the big windows are restored, light is is so necessary.
“Jack’s is such a dreary place.
“Also it would be good if we could have less noisy music – some stores including Aldi don’t have music, which many people appreciate.
“It’s been a waste of time and money making such a good working store into such a substandard place.”
