RUGBY UNION - Bromsgrove RFC suffer heavy defeat at Syston as title hopes take a blow

BROMSGROVE RFC suffered a blow in their bid to keep pace with the league’s leading sides after suffering a 45-5 defeat away at Syston.

The Boars struggled throughout in Leicestershire as they maintained their winless record at Barksby Road with a third consecutive defeat on the road.

And the result means Bromsgrove now sit fifth in the Midlands Premier table, nine points behind leaders Newport (Salop) who have a game in-hand.

Syston took a seven-nil lead before Bobby Collins was sent to the sin bin to leave the Boars a man short.

And the home side took advantage by scoring two converted tries during Collins’ sin bin period to ease into a 21-0 lead.

Bromsgrove scored through wing Tom Sadler when he stretched out in the corner after Ed Spalding’s break to leave the Boars 21-5 behind at the break.

And Syston dominated after the interval as they ran in four tries to seal the win and leapfrog the Boars in the table.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Burton on Saturday, January 29 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Branston Road.
