Over 70s to get start getting their invites for a Covid-19 vaccine from today

PEOPLE aged 70 and over will start receiving their letters from today inviting them for to have a Covid-19 vaccine.

It is the next stage of the programme after the most vulnerable groups – care home residents, those aged 80 and over and frontline healthcare workers – were given theirs. Those groups will still be prioritised if they have not yet had their jab.

It is also a week after the region’s main mass vaccination centre opened at Birmingham’s Millennium Point.

That was in addition to other smaller hubs across the West Midlands.

So far, across the UK, more than 3.8million people have received at least their first dose.

Currently there is the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-Astrazeneca jabs on offer.

Last week a third Covid-19 vaccine – developed by Moderna – was given regulatory approval in the UK but supplies of that are not expected to reach the country until the spring.

People are asked not to call up their local GP surgeries or NHS providers. They will be contacted when it is their turn for the jab.
