A RUBERY man who was jailed after attacking footballer Jack Grealish has reportedly said prison was ‘the best month of his life’.
Birmingham City fan Paul Mitchell was jailed for 14 weeks following the shocking attack on the Aston Villa captain during the Second City Derby at St Andrew’s on March 10.
27-year-old Mitchell, who admitted assault and encroachment onto the pitch, was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court in March.
He was released from jail last Monday – just four weeks into his prison term.
The owner of Mitchell’s local pub, the New Rose Crown, based on New Road, told the Standard: “Due to his behaviour he is no longer welcome here.
“He’s visited us a few times but he won’t be in the future.”
National newspapers have reported that Mitchell described prison as ‘difficult being away from family’, but ultimately a ‘good experience’.
He also reportedly said he’s not apologising for the attack on Jack Grealish.
Mitchell, who claims he wasn’t intoxicated, said he ran on to the football pitch ‘as a joke’ before proceeding to assault Mr Grealish by punching him on the right side of his jaw, knocking him to the ground.
The season ticket holder of more than 20 years, who was at the match with his dad, was quickly detained by stewards and other players.
